DRAZ Statement on Arizona Mandatory Curfew Order, May 31, 2020

As a result of the protests of the murder of George Floyd and the gatherings that have followed, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey issued a mandatory curfew order to start tonight at 8 p.m. This order is to last one week and will end at 5 a.m. each morning during this time.

DRAZ is making certain that this Executive Order does not violate the rights of Arizonans with disabilities.

The Executive Order states that “individuals traveling directly to and from work, caring for a family member, seeking medical care, getting food or groceries” are exempt from this curfew. People with disabilities who are out during this time for the exempted reasons should not be in violation of this order.

This has been a trying time for our country. Not only are we still fighting a pandemic but we continue to see injustice towards our fellow African-Americans. It’s hard to see this sort of senseless violence happen again and again—whether it’s in Minneapolis, Phoenix, or Tucson or anywhere else. The families of those killed deserve justice and accountability from our justice system. And, this injustice hits all of us.

We are committed during this time to continuing our services to protect and advocate for people with disabilities. If you have been denied access to necessary services related to your disability due to this mandatory curfew please contact us at 1-800-927-2260.
