As the child of a special education teacher, James developed an early appreciation for the experiences and challenges of people with disabilities. After completing his undergraduate degree at NAU, he began managing group homes for adults with disabilities. In that role, he gained hands-on experience in payroll, billing, and budgeting, which inspired him to pursue a graduate degree in accounting. James went on to earn his Master of Science in Accounting from the University of Arizona. He spent several years in public accounting before returning to the nonprofit sector, where he has served as CFO for several organizations. James and his wife are the proud parents of twins, one of whom was born with Down syndrome—an experience that deepened his personal commitment to disability advocacy. James enjoys the outdoors, family time, cooking, disc golf, and music.
