Today, July 26, 2025, we celebrate the 35th birthday of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA is a landmark federal law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities and ensures equal opportunities in all areas of public life, including work, schools, transportation, public services, and private businesses that are open to the public.
Let us mark the 35th anniversary of the ADA:
- By learning as much as we can about disability rights. Go to A to Z: ADA Topics and Anniversary Countdown. – ADA Anniversary Tool Kit (credit: ADAanniversary.org).
- By sharing stories of how the ADA helped us. Go a social media platform of your choice, use the hashtag #ThanksToTheADAto share what the ADA means to you.
- By celebrating the people who crawled up the steps of Congress to push for the ADA’s passage and the right to be included in all aspects of public life.
- By recommitting our efforts to advance accessibility, equal opportunity and community inclusion of people with disabilities and to oppose policies that threaten these hard-earned legal rights.
It is now more than ever vital that we embody Disability Pride Month 2025’s theme that “We Belong Here, and We’re Here to Stay.”
As Arizona’s designated Protection and Advocacy (P&A) organization, DRAZ is dedicated to defending and advancing those rights every single day.
Through legal advocacy, education, and direct support, we empower individuals with disabilities to advocate for what matters most, whether that’s access to inclusive education, fair housing, employment, or the fundamental right to vote.
On the 35th anniversary of the ADA, we recommit to the ongoing fight for independence, justice and equality. We expect our leaders, regardless of party, to stand with us in ensuring that people with disabilities have equal opportunity to live, thrive, and contribute to their communities.
