Theresa Shinn, LMT

Theresa Shinn, LMT is a blind Arizona native living life with a rare congenital condition known as Blepharophimosis, Ptosis, and Epicanthus Inversus Syndrome (BPES). Theresa has a son who was also born with BPES. Her advocacy began as a mother providing for his unique medical and educational needs. BPES shaped Theresa’s experiences while navigating disability challenges for her family.

Her love for the outdoors began while growing up in the Verde Valley, where she began learning about holistic wellness. Theresa graduated from the Arizona School of Massage Therapy in Tempe and has dedicated over 25 years to wellness and massage therapy. In 2013, she collaborated with the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson to develop the Learning to Help Others Quit Tobacco program. Her work reflects a longstanding dedication to improving the well-being of Arizona communities.

Theresa’s diverse career has also fostered a passion for small business ownership. She gained firsthand experience through multiple business ventures. Owning small businesses provided her with a practical understanding of barriers disabled entrepreneurs encounter.

Demonstrating her strong commitment to community service, Theresa volunteered with the Arizona Anti-Trafficking Network. She also served on the Foster Care Review Board where she helped promote the safety and well-being of children in family court cases.

Theresa brings a unique perspective shaped by her lived experiences, professional career, and community service as a disabled individual. She is passionate about advancing accessibility for people with disabilities, advocating for human rights, and fostering opportunities that empower individuals and families to strengthen their communities throughout Arizona.
