The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal law that protects people with disabilities from discrimination and mandates access to places and services. Title III of the ADA applies to places of public accommodation. Places of public accommodation include hospitals and professional offices of a healthcare provider, like a doctor’s office, an imaging center, or a physical therapy center. In addition to the ADA, Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a separate federal law that applies to hospitals and other healthcare entities receiving federal financial assistance, like Medicare and Medicaid funding.
