2026 Session #2: Ensuring Safety Among the Disability Rights Community in Police Interactions – A Collaborative Discussion with Stakeholders
Presenter:
Sey In, Managing Attorney, Disability Rights Arizona; Nancy Martinez, Community Engagement Coordinator, Chandler Police Department; Officer Nicole Upshaw, Chandler Police Department
Synopsis:
Disability rights advocates and law enforcement have one common goal – to promote safe outcomes. In 2025, we explored some common concerns experienced by the disability rights communities when interacting with law enforcement. This year, we invite Chandler Police to share what they are doing as it relates to their Return Me Safe program and perspectives from the Crisis Intervention Team. This presentation will also explore other interventions, both statewide and nationwide.
